Odyssey Cruises
Washington, D.C.

by Ken Shane

Perhaps you’ve been to Washington, D.C. on more than one occasion. You may have toured the majestic cityscape by car, trolley, or metro train. There is another way to see some of the city’s grander sights though.

How about a leisurely brunch or dinner cruise along the Potomac? Odyssey offers you the opportunity to view our most revered monuments, dine on first class cuisine, and dance to live music, as you drift by awe-inspiring tributes to Washington, Jefferson, and Lincoln. The company, which also offers cruises in Boston and Chicago, employs a specially built boat in Washington, Odyssey III, which is able to pass beneath the low bridges over the Potomac. The boat features three glass atrium dining rooms, as well as an outdoor deck from which to see the sights.

From the moment that you step aboard, you are treated with a level of hospitality and service that has become all too rare these days. Every staff member, including the hostess, wait staff, and cruise director, has made it their mission to insure your comfort and enjoyment. Your mimosa glass or coffee cup does not remain unfilled for long, and your empty plates do not linger on the table.

The brunch cruise features a wonderful buffet, highlighted by a delightful chocolate fountain beneath which you can coat a nice selection of strawberries and pineapple. Speaking of fruit, the banana French toast is also not to be missed. The dinner cruise is a more traditional, menu-driven affair, but there is nothing ordinary about the cuisine.

The band on our brunch cruise played expert renditions of soul and rhythm and blues classics. The music is quiet at first, appropriate for enjoying the dining experience, but by the time the two hour brunch cruise nears its end, the dance floor is filled with revelers enjoying the hits of the disco era.
